To Know Someone Deeply

To know someone deeply
is like hearing the moon through the ocean
or having a hawk lay bright leaves at your  feet.
It seems impossible, even while it happens.

-Mark Nepo

To know and see someone deeply, and have them know and see you deeply, is one of life's most beautiful gifts.

In the midst of busy, chaotic, and sometimes overwhelming life moments, it is like a deep, cleansing breath. It says; I can relax now. I am home. This is what really matters. It is like a wild, sacred moment of truth. It is a place where there is no room to be scared. The place you knew you always wanted to be, the place you knew was always inside you, waiting patiently for you to notice. Everything that you have been longing for is waiting there for you, it has always been there. Because it is within you, not without you.

"Only by daring to be ourselves, can we deeply know others." - Mark Nepo

When you find yourself truly connecting with another human, whether a friend, or a lover, or even someone passing by on the street, realize that you are seeing the reflection of your own beauty. You are daring to be yourself, and this connection is the fruit of that.

This deep seeing has been waiting for you. Waiting for you to open up your hands, your heart. Waiting for you to know that everything is sacred. I am thinking of Ani DiFranco's song " I am walking alone out in the rain." It is all sacred. This time alone with yourself. Because YOU are there. And this connection to being with yourself opens up the door for you to connect with others on a profound level. This is what we're here for: love.

And when you find yourself trying, or searching too hard for what you desire.....

Dial it back, baby.

You are already everything you need to be. There is nothing to become. You already are it all.

As we all learn these truths together, as humans, may peace descend on us. Decently, slowly, sensually, solidly. May we lean in and listen to what rises up when our heart valves are set to open. One of the keys is to accept everything. Accept absolutely everything and everyone. Know that it is all a part of the tapestry making you who you are. Making us who we are.

It is all to be seen.

See it all. Feel it all. Embody it all. Breathe it in. Be in it. Let your life flow. And then you will deeply see others.

"Discovering who we are is like breaking a trail up the side of a mountain. The deepest friendships begin when we look into the eye of another and discover that they have been there too. We carry whole worlds within us as we brush by each other in the supermarket. We are always both so known and so unknown.

This is why knowing someone deeply is such a treasure. It opens the sky of all time. It lets the song come out of the sea. It lets the heart like a photograph be developed for being touched by another."  -Mark Nepo

Oh, this life.

It is truly an adventure. Sometimes messy, but always beautiful. May we always, all, be given the eyes to see this.

The Raw Beauty of Life

"You are like a leaf blowing around in the eye of a hurricane. Life has really landed on you. It's amazing to see how you carry it." -Ryan Hartley Life is like a dark night, and a star-lit soul peering into a jar of fireflies. We are free and bound at the same time.  It is the collected moments that you are present to, which create a beautiful life.  Observing the steam rise in curls from a mug of green tea, the pattern of sunlight streaming through a leaf, the warmth of someones lips on yours, the crinkle at the corner of the eyelids in a child's smile, the moment you jump into a cold lake.  This is life.  And yes - the moments where you are curled up in a ball on the floor, your body heaving with sobs. The moments where you are called out. The dark parts of yourself that you encounter, and choose to integrate. The times you see someone doing something you wish you were doing and feel jealous. Life is not a tea party that we dress up f...
